How I clear my mind
Recently I’ve been feeling really restless and especially at times when I NEED to be work focused. It’s like my brain is constantly tired and wanting a rest from life.
I’ve been experimenting with some simple ways to build increased clarity with intentional rest.
Here’s what I find is working for me. Feel free to pick and choose a few and try them out!
Mini meditations
I love the idea of meditation but can’t get around sitting still for 20 minutes in one go. I do 3 minutes a day and find I get all the benefits I need of having a clearer mind, a calmer mind and a screen break.
Pilates
I love exercise when it’s about building strength and Blogilates is my favourite YouTube channel for workout videos. What workouts are your favourite?
Instrumental music
Listening to popular songs but the instrumental version helps me to feel relaxed but also upbeat. This is the link to my favourite instrumental playlist: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/37M1S8hE8x4wF6HXT7NKCZ?si=ff05f1c0f56247bd
Art journaling
You don’t have to be good at art or even like doodling to do this. The simple act of scribbling on a page, adding stickers, testing pens, writing quotes or recipes on paper triggers the activation of your creative brain. It acts as a break from day to day logic & mental stress. We rely on the logical brain for planning and managing life so opening the creative brain help to switch off any stress for a short while. My only rule with art journaling is that I must enjoy it. Once I finish I always feel happy and think to myself “that was fun”. You get to define what your version of fun is.
Reading a book
I love to read in pockets of time throughout my day. For example, waiting for the kettle to boil or the oven timer to buzz or whilst waiting for a face mask to dry. There are always random pockets of time if you look for them. If you don’t enjoy reading this is where you could listen to podcasts or YouTube or music or read magazines or anything simple really.
If you find these tips helpful let me know which one you like and also what other things you find help you to keep a clear head. What things do you really enjoy doing that leave you feeling refreshed?
