Three Simple things you can do if you’re feeling overwhelmed right now

If you’re feeling overwhelmed at where we are in the year right now I hear you. It can feel really tough to be between two minds. One where you are focusing on the next two months to the year well and then the other mind where you are prepping for a new year, a fresh start and wanting to set huge goals. So how do you balance it all and focus without feeling like you’re drowning. These simple tips will help.

Now I’m going to go back to basics, so we are starting with:

1.    Breathing and breath focus

If you’re feeling overwhelmed the chances are your breathing is shallow and you’re not thinking about it much at all. Focus on your breathing with intention and you will instantly feel calmer

Take three DEEP breaths. Count 7 seconds for the in breath, then hold your breath for 4 seconds then count 7 seconds for the out breath. Repeat this up to 5 times and you will feel an instant shift in your breathing and your whole physiology. I like to put my hand on my heart when I take the deep breaths in and I like to focus on things I am deeply grateful. It becomes a breathwork practice

2.    Dump everything onto paper

Write down everything taking up mental space. Be it the phone call you need to make, the rubbish that needs to be taken out, the book you’ve been meaning to read. Dump everything onto paper. I mean EVERYTHING. Let it all go onto the paper. No Judgement no editing. Just write it all down.

3.    Do something fun quickly

Go and do something fun for 5 minutes – listen to a song, read a book, chat to a friend, do some stretching, perhaps get away from your computer screen. Doing something fun for a very short time will help shake up your energy and leave you feeling happier.

Let me know which of the above you try out over the next few weeks and how you find it. Don’t forget to come say hello over on Instagram and let’s build support and accountability.

See you in the next post!
